“All Cultures have had to find ways to transport water and other fluids from one location to another for practical and ceremonial reasons. I have long been fascinated by the structures and shapes of these objects and this has allowed me a great deal of playful variation.” Gary Komarin
Komarin’s contemporary paintings, inspired by ancient civilisations, will complement the ancient, modern and contemporary art of the museum.
The exhibition can be compared with the ancient Greek and Roman vases, amphorae and tableware in the MACM’s permanent collection.
Native New Yorker Komarin has exhibited extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia and has been honoured with the Joan Mitchell Prize in Painting, the New York Foundation for the Arts Grant in Painting, the Edward Albee Foundation Fellowship in Painting, the Elizabeth Foundation, New York Prize in Painting and the Benjamin Altman Prize from the National Academy of Design Museum, New York.
